What is Surrogacy?

Surrogacy is when a woman carries and gives birth to a baby for another person or couple. The eggs of the intended mother or a donor are used and there is therefore no genetic connection between the baby and the surrogate.

Who can be a surrogate?

• Women who are socially and psychologically eligible for surrogacy.
• Non-obese or non-anorexic women (BMI index, eg a body mass index in the healthy range)
• Women without any contagious disease.
• Women without alcohol, tobacco and drug addiction
• Women who do not have diabetes or who have not experienced preeclampsia in their previous pregnancy.
• Women without chronic illnesses (diabetes, hypertension, etc.)

In which situations is Surrogacy performed?
• Women who have had a hysterectomy surgery (tumors, fibroids, cancer, etc.)
• Women whose uterus cannot support pregnancy
• Women who do not want to give birth for social reasons
• Women with Asherman’s syndrome (with uterus but not suitable for pregnancy).
• Where pregnancy or childbirth is at risk (women with serious heart and lung problems, women with fatal risk of clotting disorder).

Surrogacy Legal Procedures

As a result of the protocols signed with the surrogate mother, the baby will be completely from the couple after the birth and the surrogate mother cannot claim the baby. Contracts are made with lawyers who are experts in surrogacy to fulfill the legal requirements and to protect the rights of the couple applying the procedure.
